Ramadan Mubarak!!

Islamic Society Northern Wisconsin Altoona Masjid has for a number of years decided to delegate the decision of the start and end of Ramadan and the two Eids to the Islamic Society of North America's Fiqh Council (Fiqh Council of North America) due to it being the largest and oldest body representing Muslims in the USA. Thus the dates are to be:

Saturday June 28th, 2014: First day of Ramadan (first day of fasting)
Monday July 28tht, 2014: First day of Shawwal (Eid alFitr)

If you do not agree with this decision and would like the masjid board to know, then you can send a civil email with your concerns to: danish@altoonamasjid.com

ISNA's decision is based purely on astronomical calculations and the presence of the moon which can be read here:http://www.fiqhcouncil.org/node/66

Other organizations that announced first of Ramadan through other means include:
American Muslim Jurists of America: Saturday June 28th, 2014 - accept sightings anywhere in the world that share a part of the night with the US (accepted Nigeria, Yemen sightings as sufficient)
Chicago Hilal: Sunday July 29th - accept sightings in North America only (USA, Canada, Caribbean, Mexico) - aware of sightings in Alabama and Texas but did not receive these reports themselves
Crescent Watch: Sunday July 29th - no sightings were verifiable for Friday night though there were reports form Texas, California, and Eastern US.
MAS/ICNA: Request the people should fast with their community and not break away to maintain harmony

Sighting reports are listed here:
